Compassion for Others

Life is a journey that we’re obliged to take part in. From the moment we were conceived until such time that we need to embark into the afterlife, it is still a continuous adventure. During the span of our journey, we encounter different types of obstacles that hinder us from success, different people that either make us or breaks us, and different situations that give us lessons we may learn from. With these things coming at us each and every day, we may need someone to be our helping hand and us to be theirs.

Compassion literally means “to suffer together.” Among emotion researchers, it is defined as the feeling that arises when you are confronted with another’s suffering and feel motivated to relieve that suffering. Just a simple word when uttered but a great deed when done. It’s better to suffer with someone beside you than to take it all on your own but, as the saying goes, you must do unto others what you want others to do unto you. Compassion requires sacrifice, demands effort , and steals time. It isn’t easy. But if one has the will to abide those things, one is rewarded with a companion that lasts until your very last breath. And that is worth everything. In the modern world we stand in today, we all seem to forget the real essence of living. We are all consumed by greed and power. We will do anything to be the best rejecting the fact that during our desperate journey to the top, we may befall some of our colleagues. Life is not about competitions. It is not about whether you are outstanding in doing things. It’s not about winning. Because in reality, teamwork makes everything happen. Have compassion for others and it will eventually come back to you. Like the kindness boomerang for example.
